Game Summary

Shawnee hosted Division I Junior College Simmons, who comes into the contest 7-1 on the season.  Shawnee drew first blood, but Simmons struck back and took an early 10-2 lead.  Shawnee battled back with their tough man to man defense and was able to cut Simmons lead to two points.  Simmons took advantage of careless turnover by the Saints early in the first half and lead at the half 35-29.  At the half Simmons leading scorer, Deshawn Pendleton had 10 points, but was held to only four points the entire second half.  Shawnee had balanced scoring with key contributions off of the bench.

Shawnee took the lead mid-way through the second half and it was nip and tuck from that point forward.  Shawnee secured the lead on out of bounds score from Devon Irven with nine seconds left in the game.  Stanley Johnson led the Saints with 11 of his 14 points in the second half.  Shawnee moves to 5-3 on the season and travels to West Kentucky Community Tech on Saturday @ 3pm.

Shawnee Head Coach John Sparks comments:

Devon just made a play at the end, that’s what you need your sophomores to do.  Simmons has a really good squad.  They have some players, but we stepped up to the challenge.  We had two starters out tonight and the rest of the guys picked up the slack and did their jobs.  I am really proud of their performance tonight; it was a total team effort.”
